Glenna Goodacre

Born 1939, Lubbock, TX

 

A prominent sculptor of the human figure, Goodacre has specialized in works of women and children.  The Vietnam Woman’s Memorial, located on The Mall in Washington, DC, is her best-known public monument.  She also has won awards for sculpture depicting scenes of Native American cultural life.  Pledge Allegiance was designed initially in small size as a gift for First Lady Barbara Bush.  It was later enlarged for outdoor placement.
