Sculpture Safari

Grades K-3
$2 per student and Extra Adult

Students search for exotic and domestic animals in sculpture as their safari leader points out a wide range of creatures from around the world. They will learn animal characteristics as well as methods used by artists to interpret animals.

Learn to Look

Grades 4-7
$2 per student and Extra Adult

While walking through the sculpture gardens, students will learn about the basic elements of sculpture and the materials and tools used by sculptors. They will discuss the definition of a museum and concepts such as line, mass, form, texture, and color.

Where Art and Nature Meet

Grades 7-12
$2 per student and Extra Adult

Students will stroll the gardens and learn about Brookgreen’s history and sculpture collection through the eyes of its founders, Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington. Participants will learn how the Huntingtons designed and developed their outdoor museum and will observe selected sculpture.

Fauns and Fountains (Mythology)                 

Grades 9 - 12

$2 per student and Extra Adult

A docent will lead students on a walking tour of the sculpture collection, pointing out specific pieces that illustrate stories from Greek and Roman mythology and discussing the symbolism in selected pieces. Students will: 1) learn selected myths while viewing works of sculpture that depict those myths, 2) learn to appreciate sculpture and the storytelling tradition among various groups of people, 3) develop an understanding of the use of symbolism in art and literature.
