Brookgreen Gardens is committed to sharing its resources through scheduled guided programs with students and teachers by offering a wide range of topics specifically geared to the student group from Kindergarten to 12th Grade. Art, history, nature, and culture combine in the Brookgreen experience! The beautifully landscaped sculpture gardens; the Wall Lowcountry Center; The Lowcountry Zoo; the Creek Excursion; a Ricefield Overlook, and the Lowcountry Trail, Brookgreen’s outdoor museum exhibit, provide students with opportunities to view plants and animals in their native settings and to learn about Brookgreen’s rich plantation history.

Art, History, and Nature Programs and Cultural Performances are 50 minutes in length.  All programs, except Backyard Habitats, correlate to South Carolina Teaching Standards. Please click on Organizing Your School Visit and read completely to simplify your registration process. It provides information about group size, fees, registration, arrival/departure, etc., and will access the program/performance descriptions and the registration form.

The Education Department coordinates two annual Special Events for students in the Georgetown and Horry County School Districts. “Gullah Gullah Days” is a social studies program for third graders, and “Dirt & Worms” is a science program for third and fourth graders. Each is made available through grants and donations, which provide for programs but not transportation to Brookgreen Gardens. Registration for these programs is handled only at specific times each school year. Eligible schools will be notified by correspondence, after which reservations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis.

Self-guided programs are no longer available for school groups.
